Probably. That's why Robert Reich, who summarizes the American Problem so well, would not stand a snowball's chance in Hell of winning the US Presidency. Today he posts:
Connect the dots: Almost all the economic gains are going to the top, which means the rest don’t have the purchasing power to get the economy out of first gear. So unemployment remains high, and most families’ wages continue to drop. The ranks of the poor are growing and almost a quarter of our nation’s children are in poverty. We know how to reverse this (a living wage, better schools and affordable colleges, stronger unions, wage subsidies, no more trickle-down or austerityeconomics, green jobs) but cannot because our democracy is drowning in big money. Much of it is coming from Wall Street, large corporations, and a few billionaires that want to keep wages down and unemployment high, reduce their own taxes and regulations, and collect corporate welfare.
This is not sustainable. We must get big money out of politics and restore broad-based prosperity. How and when? At the very least, with a candidate for president in 2016 who makes this the centerpiece of his or her campaign and turns it into a national movement, which you and tens of millions of others join. I don’t see any prospect on the Republican side. Then will Hillary Clinton do it? If not, Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders? If no one else will do it, I will.
A minority of voters have foisted an Autocrat upon the nation. Autocrat: someone who insists on complete obedience from others; an imperious or domineering person.

I just can't imagine why highly-paid right wing Fox "news" pundits don't want hard working Americans to earn a decent paycheck. Yeah, right...
Overtime pay is killing the American work ethic, according to the talking heads on Fox News. They think that if people just work harder, they’ll get their due. To them, worker protections like overtime pay laws undermine people’s desire to work harder for extra pay.
This is in response to President Obama’s executive order to the Department of Labor to revise the overtime pay law in the Fair Labor Standards Act. The purpose, he said, is to expand overtime pay to millions more Americans, who currently aren’t getting paid fairly for the amount of work that they do.

Anti-science rules the land. Few things are more harmful to the Nation and science than the belief by anti-vaccers that vaccines cause autism in kids. What we know for sure is that NOT vaccinating little Darling is a surefire way to spread disease and sicken little Darling.

Bully That Shot Texting Father In Movie Theater Was Also Texting
Curtis Reeves’ son, Matthew Reeves, told detectives that his father texted him at 1:04 p.m. Jan. 13, the documents show. Curtis Reeves told his son he was already seated inside the theater. Matthew Reeves, who is a Tampa police officer, made plans to meet his parents at the theater for the 1:20 p.m. showing of “Lone Survivor” but was late because he stopped to wash his truck, he told detectives.
So it’s not like Reeves was a stranger to texting. This wasn’t a “get off mah lawn ya whipper snapper!” moment, this was simply a bully with a gun doing what bullies do:
Assistant state attorney Manny Garcia told the judge that Reeves has a habit of confronting people who use phones in theaters. Garcia said he was contacted late Monday by a woman who said she had a similar incident with Reeves in December.
“She was at the Cobb movie theater when she was confronted by the defendant for texting,” Garcia said. “He was glaring at her the entire time.”
Garcia added that Reeves followed the woman to the bathroom, which “made her feel very uncomfortable.”
That woman must be wondering if she’d be the one with a bullet in the chest if she’d told Reeves to frakk off.
Why was Reeves so aggressive for a 71 year old man? Why pick a fight with a man almost half his age? Why harass and intimidate a woman? Gun entitlement, of course. This is the predictable result of the combination of “stand your ground” and concealed carry. ”I have a gun so I can do whatever I want. If you give me any lip, I’ll just blow you away and claim I was standing my ground.”
As the open carry movement spreads (and it will because politicians are still terrified of the NRA despite their lousy track record), it will get worse. Arrogant gun nuts will feel even more entitled to bully everyone around them. If you doubt this, please recall the group of gun nuts that just “happened” to show up in the parking lot of a restaurant where a handful of middle age women where having an anti-gun meeting. The gun nuts tried to claim that it was just a coincidence but even far right “The Blaze” wasn’t buying it:
“Open Carry Advocates Stand Outside Moms Against Gun Violence Meeting: Tell Us if You Think They Went Too Far”
Yeah, let’s put moar gunz on the street. Because the freedom to bully people without guns is exactly what the Founding Fathers had in mind.

Michele Bachmann Calls for the Imprisonment of Harry Reid and Daily Kos (No, Really!)
What Balls
Teabagger Michele Bachmann, who rails against Big Gubmit, is calling on the Feds to imprison everyone criticizing the Koch brothers.
Bachmann, who must of skipped class when the First Amendment was taught at her law school, believes critics of Charles and David Koch should be indicted on RICO anti-racketeering charges.
Appearing on Hate Radio, during CPAC's annual lunatic convention, Bachmann said,
I just thank God that there’s a billionaire or two on our side.
All the billionaires seem to be on the radical left, so I’m glad that we have a couple on ours.
I hope we get a few more that are willing that come out but realize also this is an intimidation movement. I’m sure that the donors on our side don’t like to have their names vilified and that’s what this is about, intimidating people from giving money to our cause, that’s it. There’s something called the RICO statute, the racketeering law, that should be applied against them for doing this. (cite) Arresting critics and throwing them in jail -- straight out of GOP icon Vladmir Putin's playbook.
RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act), of course, was designed to tackle organized criminal activities. Political speech as yet to be considered a criminal activity, but we're a young country, so who knows what the future holds. In any event, you're On Notice, Jed Lewison, Laura Clawson, Barbara Morrill, Markos Moulitsas! Your days of hurting the fee-fees of Charles and David Koch are numbered. ~ Daily Kos
Another Americans For Prosperity (Yeah, Right) Bullshit O'Bama "Horror Story" Bites The Dust
The case of Julie Boonstra, a leukemia patient who was featured in an Americans for Prosperity ad against Representative Gary Peters (D-MI) claiming she had lost her doctor and seen her premiums rise as a result of the Affordable Care Act, became controversial last month after politicians and reporters disputed the details of the ad, finding that Obamacare would actually improve her health coverage at lower cost.
Glenn Kessler, Washington Post’s fact checker, originally assigned the story ‘two Pinocchios’ (on a scale of four) pending further information about Boonstra’s plan (which he said AFP declined to give him). On Tuesday morning, he downgraded AFP’s ad to ’3 Pinocchios,’ arguing that much of Boonstra’s story had proven to be false, and that the group’s new ad, which merely says that Boonstra’s plan “isn’t right for me,” is a much fuzzier and “more subjective” claim.
Kessler noted that Boonstra’s new plan allowed her to retain her old doctor, and lowered her premiums by $1,200/year. It also covered all of her prescription medications and all of her out of pocket medical expenses on a bone marrow transplant, contrary to her worries on both.
“One cannot claim that a plan is ‘unaffordable’ when over the course of the year it will provide you with substantial savings,” Kessler wrote. “Thus we are changing the rating on this ad from Two Pinocchios to Three Pinocchios.”

The USA Is One Fucked-Up Country...
... if citizens line up to get autographs from a guy whose claim to fame is killing an unarmed teenager after harassing him.
George Zimmerman, the man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin, was the featured guest at a central Florida gun show this weekend, where he autographed photographs for customers. Organizers of the New Orlando Gun Show almost canceled the event because of backlash, but instead agreed to relocate Zimmerman’s signing to a smaller venue.
Oh, the stupidity.

Income equality is just a dream for most Americans
The greatest predictors of mobility are education and the ability to own a home or other significant assets, says Carol Hedges, executive director of the CFI. One likely contributor to the state's high growth of income inequality is an influx of wealthier residents with the resources to choose where they want to live, she says.
Another is that Colorado has decreased its investment in educating the children who are born here. "It's the Colorado paradox: We import people with college degrees who can earn really good wages, but we don't do as good a job of educating our own," says Hedges. If education is unaffordable, people lack the skills they need to earn the higher wages required to sustain a family. At the same time, companies face a shortage of highly skilled workers, and have fewer consumers who are able to purchase their products. In short, everybody loses.
We need to realize that income inequality isn't just a political or even moral issue. Rather, it is an economic problem that impacts both Republicans and Democrats, business and labor, rich and poor.
Consumer spending accounts for 70 percent of our state economy, which means the middle class, not wealthy business owners, are the real job creators, says Robert Reich, former labor secretary under President Clinton, in his documentary, "Inequality for All."
When we have a strong middle class, a greater number of consumers are spending money, creating a virtuous cycle where companies hire more, and the government invests more in public programs, including education, says Reich.
In addition, the traditional argument that wealthy business owners create jobs and opportunities no longer holds true: Although productivity rose more than 60 percent between 1979 and 2012, wages remained nearly flat, reports the EPI. Meanwhile, CEO pay has skyrocketed 875 percent — more than double the stock market growth during the same time period.
So while middle-class employees work longer hours to increase corporate productivity and profits, their hard work no longer translates into higher wages and increased job opportunities. That's not equality, and it's not the American dream.

Scary Palin's Answer For The Crimean Situation?
Just rattle them nukes!
Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin suggested on Saturday that only the United States could stop Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, AFP reported.
Palin, who spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), offered unsolicited advice to President Barack Obama on containing Russian aggression, saying that "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke."

Totally unhinged woman gets onstage at CPAC, says the Tea Party is an ‘intellectual movement’
An unstable woman later identified as ‘Michele Bachmann’ got on stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference today and started rambling nonsense about how super-smart the Party of Stupid is.
The woman with no ideas to offer said the conservative movement must fight back because it is “at its core is an intellectual movement” based “on the greatest ideas that have ever been conceived in the mind of man.” You see, she’s really crazy!
The insane woman stood at the microphone and added that just as America was able to overcome other threats to its survival, “we will survive Barack Obama too.”

Hey, Asshat! Pick a lane!
Conservatives are gonna have to get their story straight... either Obama is a powerful tyrannical Dictator or he is a weak, lazy president... he honestly can't be both at the same time. I don't agree with conservatives and they have the right to their opinion... but could you guys at least stick to a story.

Colorado School District destroys records to deny special needs family's access
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - A CALL7 investigation has found the Poudre School District willfully destroyed records involving a special education student, in an attempt to keep them from his family that has cost taxpayers more than $200,000.
The findings raise serious ethical questions for PSD and raise questions for parents about whether they can trust the district responsible for the education of their children.

Loves Me Some Steve Marmel Page!
Rick Perry - wearing his "I'm smart now" glasses - took the stage to scream that the black guy should "get outta" a lot of stuff.
Needless to say, #CPAC went crazy for the idea of a dimwitted southern jackhole screaming at a black guy to get out of what he considers his fenced-in area.
I hope this turd ends up the GOP nominee in 2016. I hope he cries when he loses. I hope I can capture his tears, and use them in witchery.

When does lying about Obamacare become immoral?
As published in The Kingwood Observer, Kingwood, TX (a suburb north of Houston)...
Rick Perry is governor of the state that has the highest percentage of uninsured. After the full implementation of Obamacare in 2014, many will remain uninsured because he refuses to accept the Medicaid Expansion to the Affordable Care Act. Perry runs around Texas telling his constituents that it would bankrupt the state even though 100% of the cost of the expansion is paid for by the federal government for the first 3 years. Thereafter the states are responsible for only 10%.
Most of the states with the highest uninsured rates are the ones neither setting up exchanges nor accepting the Medicaid expansion to Obamacare. Millions of American citizens that could qualify for insurance through the Medicaid expansion will be left in the cold.
The governors of these states have choices. They could take the 3 year Medicaid expansion at 100% and then opt out in year 4 if they really thought Obamacare would bankrupt their states. Their citizens could have 3 years’ worth of preventative care, coverage for their children, and much more. The Texas taxpayers are already paying for it. Moreover, it would reduce insurance rates for all Texans since the insured pool would be 25% larger.
Opposition to Obamacare has characteristics of an addiction. One knows intrinsically when one is doing wrong or doing something detrimental. However, the cravings make one disregard reality and acquiesce to the drug. What is the drug? The drug is hate for all things Obama.
Politics is a blood sport. Politicians and parties attempt to get an advantage at every turn. That is OK as long as it does not materially or deliberately affect the overall well-being of the constituent.
There are many stories detailing the plight of the poor whose only recourse is theemergency room. They get to the emergency rooms only to be stabilized and not really diagnosed in detail. Not until it is too late do they get care at a point when it is most expensive and deadly. One of the most gut wrenching stories was detailed by a Galveston, Texas medical student where she watched a patient die over a few months, not because they could not help his cancer, but because he was uninsured.

Disregard The Crappy Ukraine Spin By Traditional Media. Read This!
It seems there's more to the R/W "Putie-Toot STRONG, O'Bama WEAK" nonsense we've been hearing on Fox "news".
A favorite cartoon of the R/W...
The Right Wing dialogue about the Obama/Putin feud is disconcerting on many levels. It is sad. It is not only unseemly, disloyal, and unpatriotic, it is outright dangerous. When one’s hate for one man supersedes national security it puts much into question. Over the last few weeks Fox News characters have been exalting Putin’s fortitude versus President Obama’s mom jeans wearing lack of potency. Worse was Rudy Giuliani’s praise of Putin for irresponsible ill-planned behaviors.
Giuliani: But he makes a decision and he executes it, quickly. Then everybody reacts. That’s what you call a leader. President Obama, he’s got to think about it. He’s got to go over it again. He’s got to talk to more people about it.
A Move To Amend colleague sent me Robert Parry’s latest article on the Ukraine debacle. It is a very complex issue that most Americans will never see via the traditional media owned by the corporatocracy. Robert Parry is the AP reporter that broke the Iran-Contra scandal. He got so fed up with a lousy press that he started Consortiumnews.com to provide real journalism untainted by the corporate masters.
***
So what is the ultimate goal of the neocons with this Ukraine crisis?
At minimum, the neocons hope that they can neutralize Putin as Obama’s ally in trying to tamp down tensions with Syria and Iran – and thus put American military strikes against those two countries back under active consideration.
Read the entire article and contrast it with the news one sees on traditional media. It will be immediately apparent that just like Americans were played on the lead up to the War in Iraq, they are being played in the Ukrainian crisis. The big difference is that the stakes are much higher. Russia is no Iraq. Russia is strong. Russia has nukes.

Ukraine On The Brink Of Disaster
Kiev, Ukraine (CNN) -- Ukraine's new Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk warned Sunday his crisis-hit country was on the "brink of disaster," accusing neighbor Russia of declaring war.
Ukraine's shaky new government mobilized troops and called up military reservists Sunday, even as the defense minister said Kiev stood no chance against Russian troops in a rapidly escalating crisis that has raised fears of a conflict.
Amid signs of Russian military intervention in Ukraine's Crimean peninsula, Russian generals led their troops to three bases in the region Sunday demanding Ukrainian forces surrender and hand over their weapons, Vladislav Seleznyov, spokesman for the Crimean Media Center of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, told CNN.
Speaking by phone, he said Russian troops had blocked access to the bases, but added "there is no open confrontation between Russian and Ukrainian military forces in Crimea" and that Ukrainian troops continue to protect and serve Ukraine.

Putin's War in Crimea Could Soon Spread to Eastern Ukraine And nobody—not the U.S., not NATO—can stop him
It's O'Bama's Fault™? Don't be lame. It goes much, much deeper than that. It's Russia being historically Russian. For that matter, this shit's been going on in Europe since there was a Europe. And nobody in the world can do anything about it. Unless you really, really, really want a war with nuclear-armed Russia.
Vladimir Putin has asked the Federation Council—the upper chamber of Russia's dummy parliament—to authorize the use of force not just in Crimea, but "on Ukraine's territory until the socio-political situation is normalized." And though American spiesand the Washington Post categorically ruled this out just days ago, this was not entirely unexpected. The situation is changing rapidly, but here are some initial thoughts.
Moar here.
Me: Every other nation ban together, fight a war that costs millions of lives, and you might stop this situation, if any of the combatants remain alive, that is.
Mr. Reader: Be level headed Mr Obama. Whatever you do or don't do somehow you will be blamed. Be sane!

The Ukrainian Situation
The idiots who speak in the Republican party are all over President O'Bama because he isn't doing enough to punish Russia for sending troops into Crimea, which is a heavily Russian heritage province of Ukraine.
"Punish Russia"???? With what? No more imports of Matryoshka dolls?

Response from a reader:
Best way to punish Russia is let them keep being Russia. Having Putin in charge is surely penance aplenty.

Obama Speaks Bluntly and Honestly About How Republicans Have Damaged America
President O'Bama needs to be twice as savage to them as they have been to him. They decided when he was inaugurated to do everything they could to block everything he tries. He should have nipped that in the bud long ago.
For over four years many on the left have wondered, sometimes aloud, when President Obama would abandon diplomacy and desire for bipartisanship and tell the American people what they need to hear about why they are not sharing in the nation’s economic recovery that is enriching the wealthy and their corporations. Whether it was to appease Republicans to encourage them to work with Democrats for the good of all the people, or to avoid appearing combative, the President has been remiss to speak bluntly about why Washington is ineffective when he, and anyone with a pulse, knew Republican obstruction was borne of their opposition to him as President as much as their 30-year crusade to transfer the nation’s wealth to their corporate paymasters. However, in an interview with the New York Times, the President gave an accurate assessment of the Republican Party, the state of the economy, and reiterated his four-year economic agenda that Republicans have opposed every step of the way.
This was back in July, 2013. I really don't think he's been aggressive enough. Republicans are still obstructing.
And I am unanimous in my opinion.

Mr. Reader: Agreed, Steve. He should have said, "Understand this: What we are dealing with isn't racism, it is sedition. The very opposite of a Loyal Opposition, the Republican Party has chosen to degrade our economy, to attack our rights and our civic institutions, for crass political purposes. We aren't going to let them get away with it."
The administration should have had a truth squad kicking ass and naming names from about June 2009 on. He also should have called the Blue Dog "Democrats" in one at a time for a little chat with him, Pelosi and Reid to explain how life was going to be less pleasant for those who were more concerned about reelection than about putting this country right, 21st Century style.

Ms. Reader: That's right, Steve! When citizens don't agree with the nation's leaders, they should be silenced! And made an example! He is the Supreme. He must be right. I will now work diligently to change all my beliefs to correspond with his. <gag>
My Response: No, nobody needs to be silenced. A group of leading Republicans met shortly after O'Bama was elected, and they decided to oppose everything he was to propose during his adminny. Everything! This ongoing behavior by that party is unprecedented in American history. We see the results. No jobs bills, Congressional gridlock, and the most vile and evil things being said about a President by a party that used to holler "TRAITOR!" at anyone who would offer criticisms at oh, say, Bush. How can this be good for the Nation? I never call for anyone to be silenced. Ever. But I definitely feel that O'Bama and Co. have been meek in the face of rabid hatred, because he/they still believed that it was possible to get the haters to cooperate for the good of the Nation. He and the authors of the article are simply calling for O'Bama and Co. to "Man Up", grow a pair, and counter the nonsense spewing from the "loyal opposition" and its minions at Fox "news".
And I am unanimous in my opinion.

Obama vs. Putin: Who Will Conservatives Side With?
The Ukraine is in the middle of a revolution, overthrowing the
pro-Russia government and hypothetically replacing it with a
pro-European Union one. President Obama has insisted that there will
be consequences if Russia intervenes and, today, Putin went
ahead and did it anyway.
I’m not entirely sure it’s any of our business what the Ukraine does and I’m pretty sure that if Mexico was overthrown by a faction openly hostile to the United States, we’d be rolling across the border in a heartbeat. Overall, I’m kind of “meh” about butting heads with Russia over this and I’m not well versed in Eastern European politics so I don’t have a strong opinion on the whole matter.
What I am curious about is how the American right wing will react. Just a little over a year ago, Russia was still the evil hated boogey man for conservatives. Sarah Palin was keeping an eye on Russia, Obama’s “czars” were a threat to national security and Mitt Romney called Russia our #1 geopolitical foe. But then Putin started to openly oppose Obama and, WOW!, did the right do a whiplash 180. Suddenly Putin was a man’s man! A true leader! He made that wimpy Obama look like a…well, a wimp!
Will conservatives rejoice that Putin has very publicly told Obama to go frakk himself? I kind of think they will. These are the same people that insisted that not supporting a (Republican) president was tantamount to treason. Now, they will support anyone, even the president of a country they JUST spent 4 years fearmongering about, who will “stand up to” President Obama.
This cannot be stated often enough: Conservatives have no core values. The do not stand for anything, they only stand against.
Moar here.

I got mine, screw you!
A Republican state lawmaker in Arkansas, who was injured in a drunk driving accident, and relied on Medicaid to cover most of the one million dollars in medical expenses he incurred, is denying Medicaid to others. Arkansas Representative Josh Miller was paralyzed in a car accident 11 years ago. He and a friend were fortified with alcohol and decided to go for a drive. He was apparently so intoxicated that he does not recall which one of them was driving, but the pickup they were in drove off a ravine. Miller survived, but he suffered a broken neck and paralysis.
Fortunately, the extensive trauma care, rehabilitation and daily personal care assistance he needed was covered by Medicaid. Now the lawmaker, age 33, is paying it forward. Well, actually no he is not. Instead, the Republican is voting to deny Medicaid access to many fellow Arkansans under the premise that it is a handout that they do not deserve.
